The one who feels League 1 is not competitive enough has clearly not seen a match in the French league this season.

Defending champion Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is far from the top of the table but is among the three places in the Champions League.

The five top scorers in Ligue 1 this season:

There were some amazing player battles for the league’s Golden Boot award. Sure, Kylian Mbappe is in the account, but there have been quite a few other stellar strikers this season who have lit up. League 1.

With that, here are the top five scorers in Ligue 1 this campaign:

# 5 Karl Toko Ekambi (Lyon) – 11 goals

A very underrated player, Karl Toko Ekambi joined Lyon definitively last summer. After impressing on a six-month loan last season, Ekambi has taken off in Ligue 1.

With 11 goals and six assists in 21 games this season, it’s fair to say that the Cameroonian is making a strong comeback in the competition. He has also forged a formidable attack partnership with Memphis Depay.

The striker had already made a name for himself with a total of 17 goals with Angers in the 2017/18 season. But on the current form, it could well exceed this count this campaign.

# 4 Boulaye Dia (Reims) – 12 goals

Dia has come of age for Reims.

Boulaye Dia isn’t the most glamorous name on the list. But that’s because his senior career only started three years ago. However, he has now become a revelation with Reims in Ligue 1.

After scoring 12 league goals this season, the Senegalese has already recorded the best figures in his career. He also managed an incredible hat-trick against Montpellier in October of last year.

Boulaye Dia scores his 11th goal of the season in Ligue 1 for Reims – he has scored 44% (11/25) of the club’s goals in 2020/21 – no club is more dependent on a player in this way this season in the division.

In a season where the Reds and Whites have vastly underperformed, languishing in 14th place in the 2020-21 Ligue 1 standings, Dia’s exploits have given fans reason to rejoice.

Boulaye Dia has the potential to be the next big player in the French elite.
