Retail price inflation for farm workers declines slightly in August

New Delhi [India], Sep 21 (ANI): Retail price inflation for agricultural and rural workers edged down to 3.9 percent and 3.97 percent, respectively, in August.
Inflation based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for agricultural and rural workers stood at 3.92 percent and 4.09 percent, respectively, in July this year.
The point-to-point inflation rate based on the consumer price index-farm workers (CPI-AL) and the consumer price index-rural workers (CPI-RL) was 3.90 percent and 3.97 percent in August versus 3.92 percent and 4.09 percent respectively in July and 6.32 percent and 6.28 percent respectively in the corresponding month of the previous year, according to a statement released Monday by the Ministry of Labor and Employment.
Similarly, food inflation stood at 2.13% and 2.32% in August against 2.66% and 2.74% respectively in July and 7.76% and 7.83% respectively during the corresponding month of the previous year.

The rise and fall of the index varied from state to state. In the case of farm workers, it registered an increase of 1 to 15 points in 15 states while a decrease of 2 to 13 points in 5 states. Tamil Nadu with 1,247 points is at the top of the index ranking while Himachal Pradesh with 839 points is at the bottom.
In the case of rural workers, it registered an increase of 1 to 16 points in 15 states while a decrease of 2 to 12 points in 5 states. Karnataka with 1235 points was at the top of the index table while Bihar with 872 points was at the bottom.
Among states, the maximum increase in consumer price index figures for agricultural and rural workers was recorded by the state of Andhra Pradesh (15 points and 16 points, respectively) mainly due to the rising prices for rice, ragi, dried fish, sugar, ready-to-wear tea, cotton fabric shirt (mill), leather / plastic shoes, toilet soap, hair oil and hairdressing costs.
On the contrary, the maximum decline in the Consumer Price Index figures for agricultural and rural workers was recorded by the State of Kerala (13 points and 12 points, respectively) mainly due to the fall in prices of the rice, tapioca, legumes, fresh and dry fish, onion, green peppers, vegetables and fruits and pan-leaf.
