November PPI figures remain positive for the glass industry

Unadjusted prices for materials used in the manufacture of glass and glazing were positive in November and year-over-year price change, according to the latest Producer Price Index (PPI) from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) from the United States.
In November, the monthly PPI for flat glass in the commodities category was up 0.3% and 8.4% from November 2020. According to the BLS, commodity classification “organizes the products and services by similarity or composition of materials, regardless of the industrial classification of the production establishment.
The November index for manufacturing flat glass in the industry classification also rose 0.8% from October 2021 and 11.6% year over year.
The industry classification measures “changes in the prices received for the output of the industry sold outside the industry (ie its net output)”.
Prices for fabricated structural metal products were up from last month’s PPI report. This index, in the commodities group, is up 42.9% from a year ago and 2.7% from October. The ornamental and architectural metal products manufacturing index, in the industry category, edged up 0.2% from October and 49.7% from November 2020.
The PPI of metal windows increased 9.3% and 26.2% compared to the November 2020 report. The price of metal doors and frames is also up, 10.6% compared to October and 37.6% for the year.
The cost of building materials, including glass and glazing, also edged up 2.3% from October 2021 and 17.7% from November 2020.
