House prices rose 16 percent from last year | New

Egne Säinast, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that compared to the second quarter of 2020, apartment prices increased by 14.1% and house prices by 21.6%.
“The strong year-over-year growth is due to the low baseline at the onset of the corona crisis,” Säinast said.
In the second quarter compared to the first quarter of this year, house prices increased by 2% and apartment prices by 2.9%.
The house price index expresses changes in the prices per square meter of transactions made by households for the purchase of housing and is compiled for apartments and houses.
In the second quarter, the owner-occupied housing price index increased 9.8% from the same quarter of 2020 and 1% from the first quarter of 2021.
The owner-occupied housing price index expresses changes in the acquisition prices of new housing for the household sector and other goods and services that households purchase as owner-occupiers.
The index includes home acquisition, other services related to home acquisition, major repair and maintenance work, and home insurance.
