Ethiopia-Kenya Consultation on Energy Sector Cooperation
Ethiopia and Kenya discuss energy sector cooperation. ENA, Ethiopian State Media, reported on Monday that government officials from the two countries have met for consultation on the energy sector partnership.
Kenyan Energy Minister Charles Keter and Ethiopian Water, Irrigation and Energy Minister Seleshi Bekele led the discussion in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
Mr. Charles Keter revealed that the deliberation focused on the issue of finalizing the electricity exchange agreement between the two countries.
He tweeted: “With my Ethiopian counterpart, Dr Seleshi Bekele, we co-chaired a meeting between the Kenyan and Ethiopian delegations to deliberate on the power exchange agreement between the two countries as we finalize the construction of the 500Kv Kenya-Ethiopia transmission line. ”
The power transmission project – a joint investment between the two countries that is supposed to contribute to regional economic integration – is a US $ 1.3 project.
In a Twitter post, Ethiopia’s Water, Irrigation and Energy Minister Seleshi Bekele said:
“It is a great pleasure to welcome a Kenyan Minister of Energy, HE Mr. Charles Keter. We discussed the completion of construction, operating guidelines and the Ethiopia-Kenya Energy Interconnection PPA. The technical teams of the 2 parties will conclude the drafting of the agreement. The system is a $ 1.3 billion investment with a modern 500 KV line, an important vehicle for interconnection in East Africa and a hub for regional integration and prosperity.
