Blip publishes SME trend data with its Blip Marketplace index

OREM, Utah, October 7, 2021 / PRNewswire / –Blip announces the availability of its Blip Marketplace Index (Blip MI), a proprietary index reflecting buying trends and sentiment in Blip’s out-of-home market. It is derived from millions of data points on approximately 20,000 SMB billboard budgets.
As the advertising that runs is often the first to be cropped with tight budgets, tracking SMB ad spend can be a very valuable first-hand metric.
Blip Marketplace Index analyzes SMB spending across 20,000 SMB billboard budgets since January 2017, with new data released each month and cumulative data referenced on this chart.
The Blip MI is very strongly correlated with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) (r> 0.95. An “r-value” of 1.0 is a perfect correlation).
“As a go-to market for SMBs to buy digital outdoor advertising, Blip has been able to track more than five years of SMB ad spend,” said Brent Thomson, CEO and co-founder of Blip. “As advertising spend is a strong indicator of the health and profitability of businesses, we make this information available to the general public to provide an overview of SME spending in our economy, as well as a comparative data point. and highly correlated with other price indices. “
Historical Blip MI data is available for each month since january 2017 and the updated data will be released the first week of each month, starting in September 2021.
The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics releases the Consumer Price Index (CPI) on roughly the 2sd week of each month. Business owners and investors can benefit from viewing CPI publications as a financial market sentiment tipster to guide investment decisions and protect purchasing power.
The Blip Marketplace Index can give investors, SME owners, companies that sell to SMEs and others information on:
- Sentiment of the SME market: optimism, pessimism, risk tolerance and aversion
- Purchasing power: budget availability / cost of capital
- Large prices charged to customers and paid to suppliers
“Blip MI and the CPI are strongly correlated because the spending habits of SMEs are often closely linked to the finances of the business owner,” added Thomson. “Decisions about personal and business expenses are made by the same person, usually with very little latency in spending changes between the two categories.”
As the publication of the report can create volatility on a large scale, having a leading index like Blip MI which is very strongly correlated with the CPI could be very beneficial as a benchmark.
